History of Freedom Activist Network
Freedom Activist Network was founded by Rich Birkett in 1992 originally as Freedom Network. Freedom Network began as a website (www.freedomnet.org) for freedom activists as a source of information about freedom and activism, and to help freedom activists network with other activists. When it became apparent that the Freedom Network name was too generic, competing with a long list of organizations with similar names, including American Civil Liberties Union's Freedom Network, American Freedom Network, Armenian Freedom Network, Braintree Freedom Network, Cannabis Freedom Network, Cetacean Freedom Network, Cheshire Freedom Network, Colorado Freedom Network, Digital Freedom Network, Dalit Freedom Network, Economic Freedom Network, Faith and Freedom Network, Freedom Network (Austin), Freedom Network (Detroit), Freedom Network (London), Freedom Network Inc (Denver), Freedomist Network, International Mens Fashion Freedom Network, International Society for Individual Liberty's Freedom Network News, Mid-America Freedoms Network, Monetary Freedom Network, Mountain West Freedom Network, Pennsylvania Freedom Network, South Shields Freedom Network, Tax Freedom Network, Texas Freedom Network, Wales Freedom Network and Women's Freedom Network, Rich decided to change the Freedom Network name in 2001. While considering other names, Rich decided Global Freedom Network, World Freedom Network and other "universal" names sounded too grandiose, too ambitious and too onerous. After consulting other activists, Rich decided Freedom Network would become Freedom Activist Network because of its human-scale, grassroots activist friendly appeal.
Today, Freedom Activist Network is expanding its scope to include memberships, events, staff, advisors and merchandise.
Mission Statement of Freedom Activist Network
Freedom Activist Network's mission is to serve freedom activists, to provide information and other resources, and to facilitate communication, interaction, cooperation and synergy between freedom activists.
